EHUko Farmazian graduatua eta laborategiko teknikaria ere banaiz. Egun, doktorego tesia egiten ari naiz EHUko Neuropsikofarmakologia ikerketa taldean. Horretaz gain, tesia hasi aurretik CIC bioGUNEko (Bizkaiko Zientzia eta Teknologia Parkea) bi laborategietan egin dut lan: Oscar Millet-ek zuzendutako “Precision Medicine and Metabolism Lab” taldean eta Nicola G.A.Abrescia-k  zuzendutako “Structure and Cell Biology of Viruses Lab” taldean.

Abrescia.

I´m bachelor degree in Pharmacy graduate (UPV/EHU) and laboratory technician. Currently I´m performing my PhD studies in the Neuropsychopharmacology research group of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). Before begin with the doctoral thesis, I have worked in two other laboratories of the CIC bioGUNE (Bizkaia Science and Technology Park): the Precision Medicine and Metabolism Lab group led by Oscar Millet and the Structure and Cell Biology of Viruses Lab group led by Nicola G.A. Abrescia.

Bokazioa / motibazioa
Vocación / motivación

Txikitatik gustatu izan zait zientzia mundua. Oso pertsona ikusnahia naiz eta ezezaguna denaulertzea ezinbestekoa dut. Horregatik, laborategiko teknikari lan egin nuenean jakin nuen ikertzailea izan nahi nuela. Izan ere, laborategian nengoela galderak etortzen zitzaizkidan burura eta horiei erantzun bat emateko beharra pizten zitzaidan. Egun, ez dut behar hori asetzea lortu. Eta horrek ikertzen jarraitzera motibatzen nau. Zientzian beti dago erantzun beharreko galderaren bat.

Since I was a child I have loved science. I´m a very curious person, who needs to understand what is unknown to her. That´s why, when I started working as laboratory technician I knew that I wanted to be researcher.  In fact, while I was working I had many doubts and questions that needed to be answered. Today I have not been able to satisfy that need and that makes me want to keep investigating. In science there is always a question to be answered.

Ikerketa-taldea eta ikerketa-lerroak
Grupo de investigación y líneas de investigación

Egun, Neuropsikofarmakologia ikerketa taldean egiten dut lan, EHUn. Farmakologiako doktorego programako doktoregaia naiz. Nire doktorego tesiakalkoholarekiko menpekotasunaren garapenean parte hartzen duten edota honen ondorioz sortzen diren garun-aldaketak ikertzea du helburu. Horretarako, sinapsi neuronaletan agertzen den zelulaz kanpoko matrizeko  hevin izeneko proteinaren espresioa neurtzen ari naiz.

I´m currently working in the Neuropsychopharmacology research group of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). The main goal of my doctoral thesis is to study the mechanisms underlying the developing of alcohol dependence and the neural alterations produced by alcohol drinking. For this purpose, I´m studying the expression levels of a matricellular protein called hevin, which is localized in the neuronal synapses.

Alderdi aipagarriak
Aspectos destacables

Hevin proteinaren ikerketa giza garun postmortem-ean egin dut jada, hiru giza taldeen artean bere espresioaren mailak konparatuz: alkoholismoa pairatu zuten subjektuak, depresioa pairatu zuten subjektuak eta subjektu kontrolak. Depresio taldea emaitzak alkoholismoaren berariazkoak direla ziurtatzeko erabili dugu. Ikerketa gehienak animaliekin egiten dira, baina gure azkenengo helburua gizakietan erabilera aurkitzea denez, giza garun laginetan  ikertu ahal izana oso garrantzitsua da. Nire hurrengo pasua izango da ikusitako emaitzak alkoholarekin tratatutako saguetan ere ematen diren. Horretarako, alde batetik, hevinen espresio mailak neurtuko ditut sagu horietan; eta bestetik, gutxi barru, Vincent Vialou doktorearen Pariseko laborategian hevinen espresio mailak eraldatuko ditut saguetan eta horien efektuek saguen portaeran zein eragina duten neurtuko dut.

I have already finished the study of hevin in postmortem human brain, in which I have compared the hevin expression levels in 3 groups of subjects: subjects with antemortem diagnosis of alcoholism, subjects with antemortem diagnosis of major depression and control subjects. The group of subjects with major depression has been used for alcoholic disease specificity. Since, our ultimate goal is that the results can be traslated to humans and most of this type of studies are performed in animal models, research in human brain tissue is of great value. The next step will be determine if the results seen in human tissue are replicated in alcohol treated mice. For this purpose, in first place, I will measure the hevin expression levels in those mice; and, secondly, in the Dr. Vincent Vialou lab I will manipulate the expression levels of hevin in mice and observe which are the consequences of the manipulation in different animal behavior models.

Etorkizunari begira…
Mirando al futuro…

Lehenik, doktorego tesia arrakastatsu aurkeztea eta defendatzea gustatuko litzaidake.  Doktorego ikasketak amaitu ondoren, menpekotasunak ikertzen jarraitzea nahiko nuke, edo, behintzat, gaixotasun psikiatrikoen inguruan ikertzea; garunak jakin-min handia pizten didan organoa da eta. Lehenengo urteak, agian, atzerriko laborategi batean egingo nituzke, esperientzia lortu eta, ondoren, etxera bueltatzea, baina nork daki. Azken fineanegiten duzunarekin pozik egotea da lehendabizikoa. Hala ere, gizartearentzat erabilgarria den aurkikuntza garrantzitsuren bat egitea nahiko nukeneu ere.

Now my first priority is to present and defend my doctoral thesis successfully. Because brain is an organ that makes me very curious, just after finalize mi PhD studies I would like to continue studying the neuronal mechanisms that take part in the addiction development, or any other psychiatric disease. I would like to continue my research career, at least, a few years abroad to, then, come back home. But who knows. After all, the main thing is being satisfied with what you do. Even so, I guess as most, I also would like to make some highly useful discovery for the society.
